A small airplane crashed into the roof of a Publix grocery store in Volusia County, Florida on Monday, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The plane took off from Deland Municipal Airport and dropped out of the sky above the Publix store, according to witnesses. Police report that five people, including the pilot of the plane, were injured in the accident

The cause of the plane crash is still unclear. An investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board reported that he saw no signs of engine failure, but the airplane was seriously damaged in the wreck, making any investigation into the causes of the accident more difficult.

These kinds of small plane accidents can be caused by engine failure, but also a number of other factors, like pilot error, inclement weather, low visibility, other equipment malfunction and more. No matter the cause, they can lead to serious injury. Sometimes, these kinds of accidents can even be fatal.

A Delta airplane ran off a taxiway early this morning at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The plane was undergoing maintenance when it slid off the end of a taxiway into an embankment, according to the AJC.

Fortunately, the airplane was undergoing maintenance and only two mechanics were on board. Neither mechanic was injured. Things could have been much worse, as a Delta spokesman reported that the plane in question sustained “significant damage” during this incident.
