Four people died and several others were injured after a tour bus overturned on Interstate-95 near Richmond, Virginia, on Tuesday.

Virginia State Police responded to the tour bus wreck near Kings Dominion amusement park at around 4:55 a.m. ET. The vehicle was found resting upside down on its roof in Caroline County, Virginia.

Like tractor trailer drivers, tour bus drivers usually must comply with numerous safety regulations and be certified to carry passengers.  Typically, a tour bus will be required to exercise the highest care possible because the company is accepting payment to transport passengers.

Lawyer Marc Howard, who has been a licensed Virginia attorney since 1993, has handled numerous tour bus accidents involving wrongful death and serious personal injury, including a catastrophic tour bus wreck case on I-95 near Brunswick, Georgia.  In that case, all of the  tour bus passengers were injured, resulting in 34 lawsuits being filed in Court.  According to Mr. Howard, the key issue in that case was whether a truck driver was negligent in striking the vehicle or whether the tour bus driver was traveling slower than the minimum posted speed limit on I-95.

In the tour bus case in Caroline County, Virginia, police will likely conduct an investigation looking at various aspects of the case, including witness statements, the bus driver’s training and history, and physical evidence from the scene.
