A Mableton man died the morning of Thursday, December 2nd, after being struck by an SUV the previous night. According to authorities, a woman in a Toyota 4Runner hit 64-year-old James C. A 39-year-old man was killed on November 8, 2010 when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck that made an illegal turn in front of him. The crash took place on Stone Road near Newton County’s recycling center at around 4:40 p.m.

An accident in Douglas, Ga., put two people in serious condition and injured 27 more the night of Friday, October 15. In a seasonal turn of events, the accident occurred on Route 64 when a car struck a trailer carrying a church group on a hayride.

One Temple High School student was killed and 13 more were injured when a school bus ran off the road and flipped the afternoon of Monday, October 4. Woman Suspected in Hit and Run Accident in Marietta; Pope & Howard Can Help

Late Friday night, police reported that a sport utility vehicle slammed into a man crossing a Marietta street. A single shoe lay in the middle of Cobb Parkway, where the hit and run occurred.

The Associated Press reported on May 19, 2010, that Walmart has pulled its Miley Cyrus line of children’s jewelry and accessories.

Walmart Faces the Consumer Product Safety Commission

The decision to pull the popular jewelry line featuring celebrity Miley Cyrus came following reports from the Associated Press that Walmart had been continuing to sell the items despite knowing months ago that the jewelry was contaminated with high levels of the toxic heavy metal cadmium.

Cadmium poisoning can result in symptoms that include:

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled all Simplicity full-size cribs with tubular metal mattress-support frames.

According to the CPSC, the crib has a product defect that can cause the mattress to collapse and entrap, suffocate or strangle children in the crib.  The recall includes both fixed-side and drop-side cribs. The CPSC has learned of one infant death associated with the product defect on the crib.

According to a CPSC press release, “CPSC is aware of 13 additional incidents involving the recalled cribs collapsing due to the metal mattress- support frame bending or detaching, including one child entrapment that did not result in injury, and one child who suffered minor cuts to his head when his mattress collapsed and he fell out of the crib.”

CPSC said crib owners should immediately stop using the cribs and find a different, safe sleeping arrangement for children.

The recalled cribs were sold at Wal-Mart, Target, Babies R Us and other stores.  According to the CPSC press release, “Consumers should contact the store where the crib was purchased to receive a refund, replacement crib or store credit.”

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the State of Georgia may be getting tougher on driving distractions, including texting while behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.

In Atlanta, drivers spend more time in traffic than any U.S. city except Los Angeles or Washington, D.C. According to David Strayer, a psychology professor, driver distractions cause thousands of deaths every year from motor vehicle collisions.

Strayer states that the laws need to catch up to the trend of negligence caused by driving distractions.

An effort is now being made in Georgia to do so.

Legislation may come up on the last day of this year’s General Assembly to address some driving distractions. Senate Bill 360 intends to ban texting while driving as well as possibly Internet surfing and e-mail while driving. Also on Friday, Oprah Winfrey is declaring “No Phone Zone Day,” to raise awareness about distracted driving. This will include a video link to Georgia Tech.
